How Mainstream Pinoy Media Treat Them?
In terms of sports games, Filipinos excel; from basketball to boxing sports; from bowling to billiard; from football to motorsports; and even on board games like chess, the Philippines have many champions. However, some sports champions of the Philippines in their respective sports disciplines were not given much attention by the mainstream media unlike to Manny Pacquiao who was given too much publicity and attention because the mainstream media gained money from his popularity. But to other sports champions of the Philippines since mainstream media don’t gained money from their respective championship games, they don’t put too much airtime reporting the achievements of these other sports champions. But if a particular sport champion has popularity rate, they will give much attention to him or her and even on the sports disciplines he or she is involved with because the mainstream media gain revenue or money by reporting this sport champion or giving him or her lot of airtime in their media network. It is pretty obvious the mainstream media bias in the Philippines not only on sports but also on everything. Take for example, the GMA Channel 7 has jump the boat of the popularity of the Philippine Football Team Azkals by creating a TV program about football.
Have one in the Philippines widely known the sports achievements of the late young motorsports champion Maico Buncio? No is not it, his sports achievements was only highlight at his sudden death. Now another young sports achiever is on the rise but have anyone widely in the entire Philippines known his victory?
Recently, another champion has been added to Philippine chess pool of champions by gaining his third Grandmaster title which qualify him into the list of most respected Grandmasters of the Philippine chess like Eugene Torre, Darwin Laylo, Rogelio “Joey” Antonio Jr., Wesley So, Beunaventura “Bong” Villamayor, Nelso Mariano II, Mark Paragua, Jayson Gonzales, John Paul Gomez, Joseph Sanchez, Roland Salvador, Rogelio “Banjo” Barcenillar Jr., Julio Catalino Sadorra and Rosendo Balinas Jr.

Mr. Oliver Barbosa
He is Mr. Oliver Barbosa of Pasay City Manila Philippines; a stalwart of the University of the Philippines who got his first Grandmaster (GM) title at the tenth Asian Continental Individual Chess Championships last May in Mashhad Iran and his second Grandmaster title last July at the National Chess Championship: Fourth Battle of the Grandmasters in Intramuros Manila.
Mr. Barbosa won over his opponents on the seventh and eighth round of the chess game which led him to gain his third Grandmaster title.
For if Mr. Barbosa have gain popularity rate only then the mainstream media in the Philippines will reports his championship in line of chess like to Manny Pacquioa and the Philippine Azkals.
